"Jigsaw Activity" 4/25

1) Give a quick explanation of the topic and propose a debate resolution of the topic. (a couple of sentences)

The section that I did was on the free speech of the media. I think that it was a bad thing for the media to censor the opinions and the pundits of the people agents the President or have a 2nd opinion on 9/11.

2) Explain why it is an important topic. You choose what to write about, but here are some suggestions if you are stuck: How does it impact your constitutional rights? Can it impact your daily life? Does it empower or disempowered you as an individual? Does it promote or inhibit public discussion? Does it help or hurt people getting along with one another? (short paragraph)

The censorship that Hollywood and the media put on the people with minority opinions was a bad thing to do because well all have a right of freedom of speech and no won has the right to take that away from us, but there are also times where people have to lesion to what they are going to say. Some times what people say can heart or insult some with the things they say. This can cause violence with just worlds. I also thing that you should only say some thing in serton places.

3) Write one or two sentences that explain a good point made by the con side and one or two sentences that explain a good point made by the pro side (2-4 sentences total).

This a quote made by the con side that I think has a really good point "The Hollywood celebrities on the left think they can do or say whatever they please and face no criticism or consequences. It's time for them to wake up and join the real world. Until then, our First Amendment rights continue to be strong. Just as strong are the consequences for using those First Amendment rights without first using our brain."

The press in times of crisis 4/24

1) Indicate whether your reading selection is pro or con for the above resolution and write three things that support the pro or con position on this issue.
Pro
"Paramount among the responsibilities of a free press is the duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving people."

"The stakes are high. America's great strength has been produced by an open society, where every policy was subject to great debate."

"The only effective restraint upon executive policy and power. . .may lie in an enlightened citizenry."

2) Write a paragraph where you state your opinion on the issue. It should include some evidence from the reading, but it does not have to follow each viewpoint to the letter. You can also include ideas and evidence from other sources or individuals.

What I think about this is that people should have a limit to what they show on the news but they shouldn’t really hide everything from the people. I think that they should have a time on TV where they have reporters that are for the war to show the good stuff that are happening and other reporters that are against the war to show all the bad thing that the solders are doing. With this people could know both sides of what is going on not just the thing that the government won’t to see.

Republic Assignment 3/21

In your opinion, does injustice pay? Why or why not? What would Socrates and/or Thrasymachus say in response to your answer?

Injustice does not pay, because when unfairness happens and you feel cheated and then you don't feel motivated to do it. You feel like you are going to get cheated again, so why try. People give up on things because they feel cheated, but this affects society because society comes down. Socrates believes in justice, he does not feel injustice pays. He went against what other people said because he went around telling them what he felt was actually right and true. Injustice affects others. We live in a society where we have to cooperate, doing injustice to others will come back around.

Republic Assignment 3/20

Question: Notice that our reading on Thrasymachus is divided into two parts. The first part is entitled – “First Statement and Criticisms”. In this first part, what are Socrates’ main argument(s) against the idea that justice is whatever the strong (i.e. the government) says it is?

What he is trying to say is that the people in power are the ones that always say what goes and doesn’t. Say If a leader gives a bad order and damages his people and its against the law but since he is in some one in power and he says it ok then its ok.

Question: In the second part – “Second Statement and Final Refutation” – what are Thrasymahcus’ two main points and what are Socrates’ two main points in response?

The 2 main point that Thrasymarchus’ was talking about was “'justice is the interest of the stronger party' and that injustice is the interest and profit of him self

Question: In your opinion, is it ever right to harm somebody? Why or why not? What would Socrates and/or Thrasymachus say in response to your answer?

There is always that one person that is looking for trouble. If that person starts doing thing to you and throws the first punch I think you have the right to hit back. Maybe there is someone that talks about you and just pushes it too far and all that rage you have inside you will won’t to take out on the person that is causing it. So I do think that you should have the right to hit some one only if they do something to you first.

One day I lost one of my teeth and I put it under my pillow with out telling my parents and the next day my tooth was still there. I ran to my mom and dad and told them to go call the tooth fairy and tell he to come get my tooth and I guess my parents didn’t wont to deal with me so that was the day they told me. I didn’t really have a big reaction I just started to charge my parents for my teeth.

Disagreements and Fights

A time when I disagreed with a friend was because he didn’t wont to say for band practice to go play halo. He told me he wonted a brake so I told him that he could just to be nice. After I told him he could take his brake he didn’t come for a week and we had a lot of performances to do so we really needed to practice. He said that he is going to take a brake when ever he wonted and I disagreed with that and I told him that he has other responsibilities. He told us that if we won’t to sound good we needed him and threatened to leave the band if we don’t let him go play halo. I told him that we didn’t need him so we kicked him out. When he went to me drummer’s house he told him that he wonted to get back in so I take it he regretted say those things.

My Rage

When I was angry it was because I had some bully problems with a so called friend. I knew this guy sense I was in 2ed grade when we went back to school for 3ed grade we became even better friend. He was older then me so he was in different classes. He got new friends that mad him into a big butt hole. He would change when he was with his friends. I wisent jealous because of his new friends but because of how he was treating me. He was being a bully with me. He would push me around and say things to me. This went on for a whole year. When I got into 4th grade I had a teacher that was new to the school. He was a very cool guy and would make every thing interesting. One day we where reading a book about bullies so he asked us if we had any problems with people like them. Some how he knew that I did. It was funny because instead of telling me to go tell some one about it he told me to beat him up, to swing and him in the face and not close my eye. So later that day he came by and started to pick on me and I remembered what my teacher had said. So when he was push him and that hole pushing process started till I throw the first punch. When I looked at him he look surprised that I hit him. All I was hearing was beat him up. All of my friends where screaming at me to beat him up. I look around to see if any of his friends where coming and then I saw the principal talking to my teacher. I look at him and he gives me thumbs up telling me that he got the principle distracted. So the fight goes on and I got 4 hits on him and all he did was dirty my pants. He starts backing up to his friend so I went to my friends. My friends told me that they got my back and stuff. I ran to the bath room so he can follow me. When I looked back I saw him running after me. When I passed the gate I saw his friends coming so my friends got in there way. We where finishing our fight till my mom saw me so she send me to the office. We started to talk about why we started to fight and they all saw that I was really the victim here so he was the one that got in trouble. In the end of the day every one knew what had happened.

1) A question I had was why did Guy start to rip off the pages of the bible??

2) Q: Faber jokingly proposes a plan of action and then starts to discuss it seriously with Montag. What is the plan of action? More importantly, why does he say it won’t work? Analyze his answer. Why won't it work?

A: The plan he was kidding about was that they where going to make copies of the bible and put it in fire mans houses and see if they burn down there houses, but then Faber says that it is going to work because the fire mans are not the problem. What he meant was that the fire men are just doing there job and there just getting rid of what people don’t use any more

9/11 Myths Light 175's windows

Claim: In the clam it talks about how people say that the plane (Flight 175) did not have any windows. A man called Marc Birnbach saw the plane and he said that it did not look like a commercial plane and that he did not see any windows on the sides of the palne.

Things I love

Something i love to do is play my guitar. When i play my guitar all i hear is the sound of angels sinning. Every time i see it i wont to play it. It has some evil spell on me that i really like. Guitars are like very very hot girls to me atleast some of them. I have to treat them right with care and to make shure nothing happens to them. a place i really love is Guitar Center! That is my Heven. I get exited when im in the parking lot! When i look at the doors it like looking at the white light. I would run in to the store and try to play as many guitars as i can when where only there for strings.

Pages 21-40

1) Montag compares Mildred (his wife) to Clarisse and says that Clarisse seems older. In what way does Clarisse act more mature and WHY do you think she is more mature? Why does Bradbury (the author) make the contrast between the two?

I think that the author was trying to say that Clarisse was more mature then Montag because Clarisse would help Guy with him self and to see if he is really happy.

2)How are the people in the novel – both children and adults - similar and/or different from people today?

Well alot of the people in the book have thing to have to do with technology like people like us we cant really have any fun with out it.

The things i dread

Something that I dread is waking up early in the morning. I hate waking up and seeing the bright light of hell. Then my perents coming in and slaping me with somting. The pain causes me to get up so i dont get another. The rage running through me of having to get up off my bed and getting ready for school. When I get on my feet I feel a bit better because my dad gives me a evil look.
